I’m a designer driven by natural curiosity and a lot of coffee

I’ve always been the kind of person who needs to understand how things work and how they could be better. Building things for the web became the outlet for that curiosity because it lets me take a complex problem and turn it into something visual and functional. That mindset has shaped how I approach my work today. I don’t start with what looks good. I start by understanding what the business needs, what the user expects, and how to bridge the gap between the two. When those things are aligned, the strategy gets sharper, the design gets more intentional, and every interaction on the website starts building trust with potential customers.

Most of what I know about building for SaaS companies I learned at 1Password, growing from web designer to design lead over six years on the marketing team. During that time, I contributed to some of the company’s biggest milestones, including three major website redesigns and building out the product pages that supported four new product launches. I also built design systems that changed how the team worked, led research that shaped the web strategy, designed over 30 landing pages that drove over $50M in ARR, and managed freelance designers to keep quality high as the company scaled. The biggest lesson I took away from all of it is that slowing down to build a solid foundation is what lets you move fast because you’re not making compromises or fixing things that should have been done properly from the start.

When I’m not working on client projects, I’m usually exploring AI tools, building my own resources to speed up my workflow, or thinking of new ideas for personal side projects. Staying on top of what’s new isn’t just a hobby, it makes me better and faster at what I do. When I take a break from designing, you’ll find me watching soccer or experimenting with new ways to make coffee, but nothing beats a simple Japanese style iced coffee.

“Johnny is an absolute powerhouse both as a designer and as a systems thinker. He doesn’t just deliver high quality creative work, he builds with scale in mind, designing solutions that anticipate what’s coming next. His futurist mindset is one of his superpowers. He has a rare ability to spot hidden requirements early, which means fewer surprises downstream and more resilient, long lasting solutions.”
